Robyn Hooper, Certified Birth Doula

Robyn Hooper is a Doulas of North America (DONA) certified birth doula (labour support) professional providing support from prenatal to postpartum period to mothers and their birth partners. Robyn completed DONA certified training with Doula Essentials. She has also completed additional courses and training in breastfeeding, advanced comfort measures,’When Survivors Give Birth’, infant and pregnancy loss support, childbirth education, and prenatal classes. Robyn moved to Revelstoke for the great community, the outdoors, and environmental work. She is passionate about working with mothers and their birth partners to support them through the ‘journey’ of labour and birth – however that looks for each family/individual.

As a birth doula, Robyn is a trained professional who provides physical and emotional comfort, as well as support to a birthing person and their partner/family prenatally, during birth, and briefly post-partum. For example, during labour, Robyn helps to: create a comfortable atmosphere, provides physical support through the use of trained hands-on techniques, uses relaxation and comfort measures specific to the mother and family, guides you through different labour positions, encourages partner participation, listens to any fears, and support is constant and 24/7. As a doula, Robyn will listen to your fears, concerns, and preferences, as well as offer reliable informational resources and referrals. Robyn offers postpartum support, such as listening to and reviewing birth experiences, and provides additional resources and referrals. Selkirk Medical Group – Group Prenatal Series

Selkirk Medical Group offers a Group Prenatal Series, free of charge, to all pregnant or newly postpartum women and their partner or support person.  These sessions are currently being offered via Zoom.  The series includes 4 evening sessions, all co-hosted by local maternity care physicians and community-based supports including women’s health physiotherapists, Public Health, doulas and the Community Connections Infant Development Coordinator.

The 4 sessions offered are:

Your Postpartum Body – The most popular session. Topics for this evening will include safe exercise (prenatally and postpartum), sex, pelvic floor therapy and what physical changes and events to expect in the first 6 weeks postpartum. This session will be lead by a local women’s health physiotherapist from Red Cedar Physiotherapy.

Maternal Wellness – It’s not ALL about the baby – mom matters, too! Join in this session to help prepare yourself and your partner for upcoming life changes, develop a self care plan and learn from other mom’s about their strategies for the postpartum period. This session will also review the free community-based resources available in Revelstoke for new parents.

Labour & Delivery – This labour and delivery session will help you feel prepared and empowered. A local doula will attend to discuss comfort in labour and birthing positions. Local physicians will guide you through what to expect at the hospital, pain management options and answer any questions you may have about your labour and delivery.

Breastfeeding & Infant Safety – Don’t miss this information-packed evening covering all things related to infant care. Topics will include breastfeeding, sleep, infant safety and more. Like all of the group prenatal sessions, physicians will be available to answer any questions both during and afterwards.

Selkirk Medical Group – Maternity Doctors

The Selkirk Medical Group has six maternity family physicians and one midwife working together in a collaborative maternity care team.  Maternity providers focus on family centered care and support mothers in their emotional and medical needs during this exciting time of life. Natural labor practices are promoted and mothers and families are supported during their prenatal, labor and postpartum experiences.  Four of the maternity physicians at Selkirk Medical Group have enhanced surgical skills and are available to provide cesarean section services at Queen Victoria Hospital.
