The goal of a police-based Victim Services program is to provide timely support and intervention in order to lessen the impact of crime and trauma on victims and their families. Program services include crisis intervention, emotional support, court updates and accompaniment, referrals and practical support (including help with the Crime Victim Assistance Program and Victim Impact Statements).
Victim Services workers can act as a liaison to provide up-to-date RCMP investigation and court information to clients. This can be helpful in complex cases, in situations where safety is an issue and for clients who are reluctant to contact police directly.
